Why Are Atheist Angry?

Stumbled across a very good article on Greta Christina's Blog.

"I want to talk about atheists and anger. This has been a hard piece to write, and it may be a hard one to read. I'm not going to be as polite and good-tempered as I usually am in this blog; this piece is about anger, and for once I'm going to fucking well let myself be angry. But I think it's important. One of the most common criticisms lobbed at the newly-vocal atheist community is, "Why do you have to be so angry?" So I want to talk about:

1. Why atheists are angry;

2. Why our anger is valid, valuable, and necessary;

And 3. Why it's completely fucked-up to try to take our anger away from us."

I'm enraged at the Catholic Church that consciously, deliberately, repeatedly, for years, acted to protect priests who molested children, and consciously and deliberately acted to keep it a secret, placing the Church's reputation as a higher priority than, for fuck's sake, children not being molested. And I'm enraged that the Church is now trying to argue, in court, that protecting child-molesting priests from prosecution, and shuffling those priests from diocese to diocese so they can molest kids in a whole new community that doesn't yet suspect them, is a Constitutionally protected form of free religious expression."

I get angry when religious nutters knock on my door and want to talk to me about their religion. The "NO SOLICITING" sign on my front door includes you trying to sell me on your religion.

Natura naturans: atheists restore to nature its "innocence" 

The de-deification of western culture (including the sciences) is our task for the next 100 years.

1. we free culture from the dead hand of near eastern mythological speculation

A mishmash of near eastern magical texts makes spurious claims of being god-given. Their nihilistic dualism and androcentric understanding of the universe and of human nature are too damaging to contribute to a humane planet-wide ethos.

2. we free culture from a death impulse characterized by "sin" and "guilt"

The universe evinces neither affect, nor morality, nor intellect. Neither physical nature nor human nature say anything about a superordinate, supernatural realm populated by creators or law givers.

Nature is silent. There is no concept of truth in nature. Indeed, there are no concepts whatsoever in nature. Nature knows nothing. Natura naturans. Nature acts.

Nature is neither meaningful nor meaningless. Neither a source of comfort (natural theology) nor a source of despair (existentialism). Both are rooted in the same mistaken presupposition that supernatural meaning can be found by searching “the starry heavens” for gods or by quarrying human inwardness for moral laws.

3. we show that religion is a needless cultural artifact

Instead, religions belong to cultures embedded in nature. And cultures are our distinctive human-all-too-human handiwork. Religions are obsolete, replaceable cultural artifacts.

Any specific religion reenacts and institutionalizes cultic myth. It gets spread through recruitment, custom and conquest -- financially supported by tax code and tithing -- enforced by indoctrination, intimidation and violence.

Xian mythology, like related big-4 monotheisms zoroastrianism, post-exilic judaism, and islam, posits a moralized universal order which never existed. No more can be found in “the starry heavens” than the ancestors put there. (Theology is fifth-rate fan fiction.)

5. we show that god-given morality is (rooted in) imperial propaganda

Some pseudo-meaning derives ultimately from Sargon I’s (2334-2279 BCE) imperial propaganda when the very first violent yoking together of disparate Sumerian city-state cultures occurred in what is now Iraq.

Sargon I appears on a low relief sculpture as a god receiving a legal and moral code directly from a greater god enthroned above him. A myth of divine origin of royalty and morality turns out to be ancient political spin. (Still works today, doesn’t it?)

6. we present a "way" superior to world hating monster-theisms

Adjust your understanding, adjust your expectations, and you will have a right relationship with the only total reality there is, natura naturans. Nature naturing — without any gods’ assistance.

Are you honestly serious..... The word atheist means that we don't believe in ANY gods, let alone yours! For fuck sakes, if I had to choose one to stick with it sure as hell wouldn't be yours.

The whole reason so many atheists are angry is because of people like you, thinking your god is the answer to everything and everyone. We solve problems ourselves, with our own two hands, struggling under diversity to bring light the monstrosities that you call religion.

Why would we pray, sitting there with our hands together talking to some imaginary being.

Additionally, why would anyone even fathom following a book / mindset, that was created by a few barely literate old men in the middle of the desert...... thousands of years ago.

Most atheists are a long time coming, our belief systems are SET IN STONE, more so than yours. We don't just up and decide one day that "oh there probably isn't a god", we are raised in your filthy majority population, forced to swallow all of the bullshit that is spoon fed to us everywhere from every angle since birth. For a person to actually come out as an atheist in this day and age is statistically more damaging to their reputation that coming out as homosexual.

I would rant and rant and rant at your fucking STUPID post, but there wouldn't be a point because you are a clinically retarded.

Oh and one more thing, I find it entertaining, that intelligence vs religion studies show, that with faith comes lower intelligence percentiles, as well, the second highest group of faith, is agnosticism/atheism/secular. Yet because atheism is so abhorrent to the general public, a person who is statistically more intelligent and honest can't go on to be elected without lying about their beliefs.

The real reason all you atheists are angry is because God doesn't love you anymore. You should all just learn to accept Him. He already loves you, even if you're all heathens.
